Good Morning,
I want to update you regarding Ms. Giles. As many of you know, the MASD Board of Directors accepted Ms. Giles's retirement letter at the Regular School Board Meeting on March 17, 2025. The Board and I wish her the best in her retirement and hope she can engage in activities that bring her joy.
Since then, Ms. Giles and the district have mutually agreed to a separation of employment prior to her planned retirement date of June 11th. We will miss her creative spirit very much and wish her the best in her future endeavors.
For the remainder of the school year, Ms. McLarney will teach Ms. Giles's MAS classes, while Ms. Lomax, Ms. McLarney, and I will cover her high school courses.
Thanks to Ms. Giles's announcement of her intent to retire in March, we have been able to thoughtfully plan for MAS and PCIA's fine arts instruction for the 2025-2026 school year and beyond. Once we finalize contracts, I will provide more details about the upcoming school year.
Please join me in wishing Ms. Giles the very best.
Thank you,
Kelly Stickel

Mill A School District will have a late start tomorrow, Thursday, February 6th. All classes will start at 10 a.m.

Two PCIA students and one MAS student traveled to Vancouver this past weekend to compete at the Regional High School Chess Championships. PCIA Senior Blake VanSickle had a remarkable competition and placed 6th overall. This was Blake's third year competing in this competition. PCIA Senior Jordan Wickersham and MAS 8th grader Derek Krieger were also successful in their first high school chess competition. Congratulations to all of the competitors!
Blake says it was an enjoyable experience and everyone had a good time. He credits pattern recognition and visualization as key factors of being successful at chess.
The PCIA Chess Club is led by PCIA Instructor, Mr. Jim Harrison. We are so glad our students have this great opportunity at MASD.
