A Pacific Crest Innovation Academy Instructor is a highly qualified teacher who values relationships in the learning experience, is excited to rethink high school, and sets high expectations for themselves and their students. Instructors serve as learning facilitators and role models as they apply multiple teaching methods to individual and classroom instruction based on the subject matter and student’s needs. In addition to classroom and collaborative instruction, instructors coordinate individual, self-directed, experiential, project-based, external and alternative learning opportunities in a dynamic, adaptive learning model.
- Work closely with school counselor to identify additional courses that may be added to Pacific Crest Innovation Academy course catalog based on instructor expertise and student and program goals.
- Collaborate with students, parents or guardians, and school counselor to create Individualized Learning Plans and provide guidance and evaluation to support student achievement.
- Establish course goals and objectives consistent with applicable high school requirements.
- Collaborate with designated partner college mentor to review College in the High School course syllabi, grading criteria, and student learning objectives to ensure that classes meet applicable college standards.
- Coordinate College in the High School curriculum and textbooks with partner college faculty.
- Instruct classes in subject(s) of expertise, including but not limited to related classes and labs in the Pacific Crest Innovation Academy course catalog.
- Prepare lesson plans.
- Implement, in a positive and supportive manner, college and/or district (as applicable) policies and regulations regarding student performance, behavior, entrance assessment, and course prerequisites.
- Implement established program and curriculum objectives.
- Incorporate variety of teaching methods to support multiple learning styles.
- Design and coordinate extracurricular, co-curricular, individual, self-directed, experiential, project-based, external and alternative learning opportunities based on students’ goals and program resources.
- Administer exams and participate in class, program and district assessment activities.
- Apply partner college grading policies to College in the High School classes.
- Evaluate and record student performance and progress and report to parents or guardians and school counselor.
- Collect and interpret qualitative and quantitative course data and provide reports for administrative purposes.
Tutoring and Mentoring
- Tutor and mentor individual students.
- Supervise independent and virtual learning activities.
- Work closely with partner college faculty to obtain and maintain College in the High School accreditation for applicable courses.
- Comply with all applicable high school and College in the High School requirements.
Professional Development and Innovation
- Participate in orientation and training that includes course curriculum, assessment criteria, course philosophy, and administrative requirements for College in the High School courses.
- Attend in-service training and continue professional growth through study and experimentation to remain current in methods and techniques for instruction.
- Identify opportunities to expand learning options and instruction techniques.
- Collaborate with superintendent and faculty to maintain a dynamic, innovative program and improve learning model using latest tools and data.
- Must meet education requirement for position.
- Must have teaching experience; postsecondary teaching experience may be required based on position.
- Must be qualified as partner college adjunct professor in subject matter or obtain adjunct professor status upon hire.
- Must hold valid Washington Residency Teacher Certificate or qualify for Conditional or Transitional Teacher Certificate and obtain Residency Teacher Certificate within two years.
- Must be committed to collaborating with students, staff, and community in an innovative high school environment.
- Experience working effectively with diverse student populations preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products, email and internet applications, data-entry and database functions.
